Safeguarding
A plain-English summary. Full DPIA available to schools and universities on request.
Age-appropriate design
Waypoint is built to the ICO Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). Under-18 accounts default to the strictest privacy settings, marketing is off, and the tone and content are calibrated for the age group.
Crisis handling
If a user expresses serious distress, self-harm, or crisis, the app pauses careers advice and responds with warmth. It signposts:
- Samaritans — 116 123 (24/7)
- Shout — text 85258 (24/7)
- For under-18s: Papyrus HOPELINE247 — 0800 068 4141
- For under-18s: a nudge to speak to a trusted adult
Waypoint does not diagnose or label mental health conditions.
Content limits
Waypoint stays in scope on careers. It will not provide financial or legal advice, write CVs or personal statements, or guarantee outcomes.
Transparency about the technology
Conversations are powered by a large language model, constrained by expert-authored content and explicit guardrails. The system prompt, guardrails, and knowledge base are maintained by Waypoint and reviewed regularly.
Data and control
Users can view everything the app remembers about them and delete any of it — or the whole account — at any time. See the privacy notice.
